For the past 40 years, Mio Morales has been exploring the discoveries of F.M. Alexander while working as a composer and musician. As an actor at Tufts University, Mio was first introduced to the Alexander Technique by Dr. Frank Pierce Jones and through Dr. Jones met Marjorie Barstow in 1972. From 1982-1994, Mio was one of a group of senior students who assisted Ms. Barstow at her annual Summer workshops in Lincoln Nebraska. For the past 17 years, he has been on staff at The Barstow Institute for Alexander Studies and more recently at BodyChance Japan and Los Angeles. He has been a guest teacher at Alexander Technique teacher training programs in the U.S. and in Europe as well as giving workshops in the U.S., Canada, Asia and South America.
As a composer, Mio’s work has been performed all over the world from Lincoln Center and the Kennedy Center in the U.S. to the Moscow Art Theater and the Paris Opera abroad. He has been commissioned by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Concordanse Compaigne International de Danse de Paris, Nieuwe Dans Groep of Holland, The Estonia Ballet, Columbia University, The University of Illinois, Dance Theater of Harlem,The Long Wharf Theater, and the Nashville Ballet among others. He was recently Artist in Residence at the Majestic Theater in Corvallis Oregon.
