An actor needs flexibility and ease at one level combined with availability and responsiveness at the level of invention. In this plenary session, Joan Schirle will share her work of 40+ years teaching actors and how the Alexander Technique is foundational to the programs of actor training at the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre’s 3-year MFA and 1-year certificate programs. She will discuss the relationship between the use of the actor vs. the use of the character, and how Alexander principles help actors analyze scenes, up level their scenic presence, and “play well with others”.
